Wrong Fuel FAQs

“I’ve put the wrong fuel in my motorbike, truck, van, trike, or any other vehicle—can you help?”

Absolutely! No matter what you’re driving, we can drain the wrong fuel from any type of vehicle and get you back on the road. You’d be surprised at the variety of vehicles we service, from ambulances and trikes to high-performance motorbikes—even tractors, lorries, generators, and equipment.

“Will my roadside membership cover wrong fuel assistance?”

Some breakdown providers offer coverage for misfuelling, but many do not, as it’s such a common issue. It’s best to check your policy details to confirm whether you’re covered. If you are, you may still receive Fuel Doctor’s expert service! If not, just call us at the numbers above for a fast, professional fuel drain from Fuel Doctor.

“Will my car be okay if I’ve put just a few litres of the wrong fuel in?”

The answer depends on your car’s age and the fuel tank size. For peace of mind, we recommend draining the tank in all cases. Generally, a mix of up to 5% may not cause issues, but there’s no guarantee—especially since newer vehicles tend to be less tolerant of any petrol in diesel or diesel in petrol.

“I put the wrong fuel in my car and drove to work—can we schedule a time for a fuel drain?”

Absolutely! If you made it to work or home before noticing the mistake, we can arrange a convenient time for one of our fuel drain technicians to come to you. This will depend on our current demand and schedule, but we’ll do our best to fit you in at a time that works for you.

Are you available 24/7?”

Yes, our fuel drain service operates across the UK 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We’re always ready to get you back on your way with minimal delay or inconvenience.
This includes holidays like Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and all Bank Holidays

“What happens to the fuel you remove?”

The removed fuel is transferred into an approved tank in the Fuel Doctor vehicle. This tank is then emptied into one of our registered and licensed storage facilities. Once a sufficient amount of contaminated fuel is collected, a fully licensed waste carrier retrieves it for recycling.

Bad or contaminated fuel?

Bad or contaminated fuel is more common than you might think, causing issues like rough running or even complete breakdowns. It can lead to engine damage and expensive repairs. As specialists in wrong or contaminated fuel, we’re here to fix it fast so you can get back on your way.

Fuel contamination can stem from dirty storage tanks, stale fuel, tanker mishaps, or even microorganisms. Modern engines don’t handle it well—fuel pumps, filters, and injectors can quickly become clogged and worn out. Our mechanic arrives with specialised equipment to safely remove the bad fuel, thoroughly flushing your fuel lines, filters, and pump, and providing you with fresh fuel to drive on.

Water or condensation in your fuel?

Water in your fuel tank can lead to serious engine damage and poor performance—and it’s more common than you might think. To prevent costly repairs, it’s essential to have it thoroughly removed from the tank.
